We have a long, rich history of providing innovative services for people with developmental disabilities so they may live meaningful, self-directed lives. Our organization was founded by Alvina Hammer in 1923, and we have served Minnesota communities for over 85 years. Everyone at Hammer – staff members, clients and their families, board members, volunteers and donors – share an important value: a belief in our common humanity. We all deserve the same opportunities to live satisfying and productive lives.

Our current array of person-centered services has been built on a foundation of respect. I believe this is largely due to the fact our dedicated team of professionals are passionate about client self-direction and our creative approach to services that support this value. We love our work and are passionate about fulfilling Hammer’s mission – to provide adults and children with developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience life to its fullest.
