“Love is not a result; it is a cause… Love is a force in you that enables you to give other things… It is a power like money, or steam, or electricity. It is valueless unless you can give something else by means of it.”
-Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Our founder, Alvina Hammer, was a force fueled by love. Her love and compassion for people with disabilities compelled her to establish Hammer School in 1923. Her legacy lives on through everyone who expresses their love through gifts to Hammer. We are extremely grateful for our volunteers, family and staff members, and donors – everyone who contributes in unique and special ways to keep the spirit of Hammer vital and alive.
