A Lifelong Home - Sheridan
Lynn and Paul have known each other for
thirty-five years. They are lifelong friends who can finish
each other's sentences, know what the other is thinking
before it is expressed, and intuitively recognizing when
the other needs to be consoled after a hard day. They
are part of a unique family of six individuals who share
a home and support each other through life's many challenges.
In early 2000, two members of this special
family began to have difficulties moving about in their
home. It became evident that they would soon require a
more accessible space to accommodate increased physical
needs. It was also apparent that breaking up this family
would be devastating for the individuals involved. Hammer
is committed to providing them with a lifelong home.
In the fall of 2000, Hammer purchased another
home and remodeled it to meet the changing needs of this
family. With each passing day, Lynn, Paul and their other
housemates became increasingly excited at the prospect
of moving into their new home. In eager anticipation,
one person even packed up his entire bedroom five months
prior to the move.
April 27, 2001, was moving day. Each person
arrived with a wide smile of anticipation and found their
belongings among the beautiful furnishings in their new
home, called Sheridan. Today and long into the future,
these six people will continue to grow and nurture each
other as family.
