Services - Hammer's Advocates
Hammer
has a self-advocacy group called Power People, which works
on issues important to individuals with disabilities.
This talented group recently finished a large project
focused on their Bill of Rights. They produced a video
that not only displayed the freedoms they enjoy, but also
the responsibilities that come with those specific freedoms.
It is important for people,
especially people with disabilities, to learn how to work
for greater freedom. Hammer uses these services to enable
the individuals they support to achieve greater freedom,
end oppressive laws, and to exercise their given rights.
"What
Advocacy Means to Me"
by Barb Neal, advocate
"I love going to my Advocacy
Group Meetings. At these meetings, we talk about things-like
our rights. I have a right to say no when I don't want
to do something. I have a right to enjoy my life. We also
learn that we can help other people too. The Advocacy
meetings are fun because I can see and talk to lots of
other people from Hammer.
I feel like I am a very special person."
