Hammer Service Opportunities
Hammer offers several wonderful service opportunities
for individuals or organizational groups who want to volunteer
on a one-time or seasonal basis. We have many opportunities
for local businesses, churches and youth groups who have
an interest in giving back to their communities and supporting
those we serve.
If you or your group is interested in pursing any of
the service opportunities listed below, please contact
Carrie Sporer at 952-277-2470 or carrie@hammer.org.
If you or your group is interested in other volunteer
opportunities, please contact Katie Bottiger at 952-277-2427
or katie@hammer.org.
Current Services Opportunities include:
Bingo/Game Night
The people we serve love to gather with their peers for
games at Hammer’s main building. One of their favorite
games is BINGO! Volunteers are needed to assist by calling
bingo numbers, distributing cards and prizes and helping
people to identify numbers on their bingo cards. The individuals
we support also enjoy meeting as a group to play board
games such as Scrabble, Monopoly and Chutes and Ladders.
Volunteers are needed to assist individuals with various
games rules and playing.
*Bingo and Game Nights work well with 10-15 volunteers.
Yard Work
Minnesota’s seasonal changes are part of what makes
our state such a beautiful place to live. Hammer takes
great pride in keeping the yards and gardens of our 30
group homes beautiful. Volunteers are needed year-round,
but particularly in the spring and fall for yard and garden
clean-up, raking, weeding and planting.
*Yard work usually works well with 5 or more volunteers.
Art and Craft-Making
The individuals we serve love to show off their artistic
skills! By facilitating an art class, volunteers can give
them the opportunity to meet with their peers at our main
building for card-making, painting, drawing and other
crafts. The Community Supports Manager is happy to help
your group pick a creative activity.
*Art and Craft Making works best with 5-15 volunteers.
Visit Individuals at Home
Occasionally, smaller service groups enjoy the opportunity
to meet with the people we serve in their homes. Some
volunteers have organized in-home activities such as craft-making,
baking, painting, barbecuing and playing music. The Community
Supports Manager is happy to help your group pick an appropriate
activity for a group of individuals. The people we support
enjoy sharing their home and always welcome volunteers
to come and have fun!
*In-home service opportunities work well with less than
10 volunteers.
House Cleaning
Our staff, the people we serve and their families are
always appreciative of a clean home! House cleaning or
“deep cleaning” may include washing walls
and baseboards, scrubbing floors or cleaning carpets on
a one-time, annual or bi-annual basis. The Community Supports
Manager would be happy to match your group with a home
that can benefit from this special kind of attention!
*Cleaning opportunities usually work best with 3 or more
volunteers.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Every Thanksgiving, Hammer provides a wonderful feast
at our main building for those who cannot be with their
families, giving them the opportunity to celebrate with
peers, staff and the special volunteers who help create
the festive atmosphere. Volunteers help set up, prepare
and serve food and clean up.
*Thanksgiving dinner usually works best with 1-8 volunteers.
Christmas Bingo
Every Christmas, Hammer organizes a BINGO afternoon so
the people we support can have some fun and visit with
friends during the holiday. Christmas BINGO is complete
with treats and prizes. Please contact the Community Supports
Department if you or your group would like to help with
this traditional holiday event.
*Christmas Bingo usually works best with 1-8 volunteers.
Event Volunteers
Throughout the year, volunteers are needed for events.
We have a 5K run in the spring, family picnic in the summer
and a gala-type event in the fall. If your group would
be interested in helping out with events at anytime, please
give us a call.
*Events work best with 1-25 volunteers.
